We live in a 16th century farmhouse. It inevitably has issues. Their ability to resolve coupled with our trust makes the Bridgehurst team extraordinary. We had issues in the roof beam, and restoration resolved. A bathroom project, resolved. We are grade 2 which make the challenges even greater. Barry has become a friend and I say again we trust him and the team. Their end product is exemplary.
We come back to trust here. We live in a very special 16th century home, grade 2 listed. This is the third project he has lead for us and we are at the point where we don't generally get others in to quote. He is honest and fair in our view, knows old houses and delivers. We are very fortunate, but keep that a secret please! Great window restoration too when we thought it had gone. His team - amazing. Barry and team - Thank you.
Ours in a Grade 11 listed property with great character. We did not have a huge space to work with but it was a complete kitchen renovation with old wiring , an Aga renovation, beams to re-wax and clean, and floors to level and lay. Nothing was too difficult for Barry. New electrics for the Aga were run from a distant fuse box without so much as a sucking of teeth!. Old wires were properly covered with a new oak beam, stained and stained perfectly. All finishes were expertly done and the attention to detail of the Bridgehurst team were second to none.
I called Barry 'my magic man'. A socket appeared in an ancient beam (on my request). The worktop was cut and fitted so perfectly, polished and varnished, that it looked like it had been there forever. Barry and his team are true craftsmen. I could not recommend them more highly.
We needed our galley kitchen converted into a larger and modern social area. To do this we had a wall removed, ceilings changed, new electrics and plumbing. As always with projects we did add a few extras along the way. New flooring and a downstairs toilet. Barry noticed the floor hadn't been pinned properly with a previous extension so strengthened the joists between new and old, making a good base for new flooring. During these changes our house maintained a reasonable level of cleanliness everyday while the work was being carried out. We would recommend Barry and his team as they were to us, he listens to your needs and ideas. we are very pleased with our new kitchen.
Everybody would like a builder who listens to you, carries out extra work with minimal fuss, recognises your budget but still does everything to a high standard.
Bridgehurst Builders are very reliable, skilled and efficient. W extended the floor area upstairs to close off the gallery area and Bridgehurst Builders used all the existing oak banisters and created new ones to look exactly the same. The attention to detail was exceptional. They also came up with a great solution to support the new floor with exposed beams to go with the existing character of the house. We also took down two walls to create an open kitchen diner and Bridgehurst Builders came up with a fantastic solution to make it look great and match the character of the house.
Furthermore, we put in a new kitchen which was challenging as the house was not square and the windows too low for a standard height kitchen. Bridgehurst came up with a fantastic solution to make it more square and designed and created sunken window sills. This has made our kitchen look great and also added to the uniqueness of it.
We also put in a new oak floor and tiled our 3 bathrooms. The house looks fantastic as Bridgehurst Builders came up with great and efficient solutions to every challenge we came across.
Bridgehurst Builders provided exceptional service from start to finish. They came up with great solutions to every challenge as well as helped dealing with the kitchen company that we had problems with.
They also made sure that we got the very best price from all suppliers and went out of their way to help us find the right products for our house. They were always reliable, extremely tidy as well as very considerate and helpful with our little toddler in the house. Their attention to detail and skills are exceptional. We highly recommend them and will definitely use them again.
The initial brief was that we wanted to convert and refurbish parts of both up and downstairs. This included converting 2 bedrooms to 1, update a bathroom to a shower room, update a single bedroom to include new ceilings & walls, create an aesthetic reveal of an original wattle and daub wall, lastly replace the ceiling in the hallway. Downstairs, to convert 2 reception rooms to 1, so to make the space functional and more usable, also to refresh and update the kitchen. All to include new UPVC wood effect windows, LED lighting and Kent style farmhouse doors made from oak.
From the outset Barry and his team had a complete understanding of what we wanted and advised with a great wealth of knowledge! Throughout the works we were kept informed at all times of any problems or issues, always followed by a workable solution. We are overjoyed with the work that Barry and his team have undertaken for us. We now use all of the house, parts of which before the works we rarely used at all. It has been sympathetically converted and restored with some great finishing touches using traditional materials and techniques alongside new.
We have recommended Barry and team to our neighbours because not only is their work second to non, but they care and go the extra mile.
Bridgehurst Builders consistently strives to excel in all aspects of work from the enduring professionalism of workmanship to time keeping and cleanliness, constantly ensuring that we as the clients and our neighbours never felt that we were living on a building site at any stage of the process!!
Barry himself trained as a cabinet maker and relishes working with anything in wood, he was responsible for advising us to expose old oak timbers that were revealed when plasterboard was stripped back. On one occasion on a Saturday afternoon when England were playing an international at Twickenham Barry sacrificed his afternoon in the pub to strip back and wax a section of oak beams, which now proudly set off the space they sit in and enhance the period character of the property!
Our project was a full width single storey extension to the rear of our existing 4 bedroom house. This was to create a kitchen/diner by knocking through the existing kitchen and dining room and creating a study/family room off the back of the lounge. We are particularly delighted with the kitchen/diner. Our living space has become incredibly sociable and whoever is cooking is included in the party and not banished on their own in the kitchen!
As a late request we added 3 dormer/velux windows which Bridgehurst were happy to add to the project. This has added a world of light to our north facing kitchen. Throughout the project Bridgehurst was within time scales that were promised and whenever inevitable difficulties occurred he was very clear about the effects on the times scales and costs. As a particular issue that arose the house had been built not in accordance with the plans that had been submitted by the original builders in 1997.
This required an additional RSJ due to rafters being installed in the wrong orientation. This was all designed, produced and installed within the original timescales. The site and development at all times were exceptionally tidy and well organised. The staff cleared up every day and made our lives, living in the inevitable upheaval, as easy as it could possibly be. Due to all of the above we have had no hesitation in recommending Bridgehurst to several of our friends and neighbours.
Barry and his team were exceptional throughout the whole process. We had a very tight deadline to complete a tricky job including a fairly major upscale to the brief and overcoming the unexpected challenges thrown up once the room was stripped. We are over the moon with the completed job and the room is a treat to use, looks stunning and is warm and cosy.
Barry ensured that the job and work was performed with sympathy to us being open to trade in other parts of the building. Noisy jobs were performed outside of service and everything was kept clean and tidy. Barry and his team put in all the hours to ensure the job was completed in time for a wedding reception, which included working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day.
We undertook the services of Bridgehurst Builders to completely renovate our 3 bedroom period house. The house was in a sad state of repair with two staircases that served the above areas solely. Barry at Bridgehurst designed a way of gaining access via one central staircase, making the downstairs open plan thus family friendly. He demolished several walls and completely refurbished to a very high standard, which also included making our house a 4 bedroom dwelling.
We had several design issues within our new home, Barry designed a family friendly central staircase that served all the second floor bedrooms. His design and high workmanship has now given us a child friendly house where we can access the childrens bedrooms in case of emergencies. Fantastic job and knowhow.
I undertook the services of Bridgehurst Builders to completely renovate a grade 2 listed cottage that had not been modernised for over 80 years. Barry and his team completely stripped the cottage and built a new second floor due to the dilapidated rotten flooring. Barry carried out the works to a very high standard, maintaining all the listed features, and beams that were treated and bought back to life. Bridgehurst Builders were absolutely fantastic in their work ethos and dedication. My cottage which is over 100 years old and is now a stunning example and I am very pleased with the workmanship and finished product, thus I have now recommended Barry and his team to others.
When I asked Barry if we could include a new en-suite bathroom upstairs, he took my request and arrived back with a fantastic working solution. My cottage initially only had a downstairs family bathroom, which was not family friendly. Barry's innovation has given the house a family friendly upstairs bathroom now, that has given us all a much better living accommodation. Fantastic input to our needs, thus I feel that Bridgehurst Builders should be included in the Heavenly Builder category.
We have know Barry for a long time and so were keen that he should undertake this difficult and complex project. Barry and his team made the project appear a lot easier than it was, due to their reliability, accurate information and advice, good humour and completing the project to a very high standard.
Extending and renovating a large project like this while we continued to live in-situ provided such real challenges to Barry and his team, but his concern and respect for our family made it possible and the ultimate difference. The site was always tidy and safe, all the team charming and polite, and all the timescales met. Barry's experience and skills are second to none. Our home is now delightful and a pleasure to own and live in. I would not hesitate to recommend Barry (and I have already done so) to anyone regardless of size or complexity.
The mere fact that we remained in-situ while Barry and his team stripped out all of the roofing, external walls, most windows and doors. Reconfigured the internal layout, removed the existing staircases and installed a new single 3 storey staircase, re-plumbed and rewired the house before insulating and re-plastering the existing house whilst at the same time building a 3 storey extension which required the entire elevation and gable to be removed, speaks volumes. I wasn't easy at all times for a family of five, but Barry's good humour and his teams absolute respect and concern for our well being was quite exceptional. This is a 110 year old house and the finish of Barry's work is remarkable. Thank you Barry and all his team.
