Bridgehurst Builders – New Builds
This was our most recent new build for a client who had an existing house on the land.
Our first phase of this build was to demolish part of the original building to be able to set out the footings for the new house. The complete house was then build behind the existing building which the owners family occupied throughout the build.
This was a huge build with the house being 5,500 sq feet. The build entailed many technical aspects for example the client was able to fill or empty his bath with an instruction from his mobile phone.
One aspect of this house is the amount of marble used on the interior which arrived cut to size from Turkey, this meant we had to ensure that the build was inch perfect.
The bath was cut from one piece of marble and weighed 2 tons. To get the bath into position it was lifted up to the first floor balcony and we moved it into the bathroom on a hydraulic lifting platform. To enable us to get the bath in exactly the right position for the plumbing we had 2 pieces of ice cut to 15 inches high by 8 inches wide by 2 ft deep.
We slid the bath off the platform onto the ice to enable the plumber to fit the waste underneath. When all the plumbing was complete we left the bath to settle over the weekend on the melting ice. On Monday morning the bath was sitting in the perfect position on the floor.
This property is completely run on Air-source which includes water and under floor heating. With a central vacuum system to all three floors of this very large house making cleaning very easy.
The swimming pool was an exciting project. The shape of the pool was very different and again it had to be inch perfect as an electric cover was being installed.
It was a real privilege to work with the owners as their vision of an eco friendly house with many technical enhancements made this build challenging and exciting.
